" The Father"  is a drama film co- written and directed by Florian Zeller in his directorial debut based on his 2012 play Le Pere .

The film stars Anthony Hopkins ( Anthony ) , Olivia Colman ( Anne) , Rufus Sewell ( Paul) , Imogen Poots ( Laura/ Lucy ) , Olivia Williams ( Catherine / Laura / Anne) , Mark Gatiss ( Bill / Paul) , Ayesha Dharker ( Dr. Sarai ) and Roman Zeller ( Boy) in lead roles .

The film earned six nominations   at the 93rd Academy Awards , including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actress Colman and won Best Actor Anthony Hopkins .
